As Business Controller NFR you are the financial business partner for the European NFR Category Directors and for (local) senior Finance Business Partners of all European Ahold Delhaize countries and for all local EU brands. You are the lead in supporting NFR Sourcing Projects and translate different (local) business interests into one EU value adding solution for Ahold Delhaize as a whole. You help guide decision making to add (high) value impact to our company and influence both financial and business processes. 

As Finance Business Partner you support the European Strategic Sourcing process for 8 European Not-for-Resale (NFR) Sourcing Categories, all Ahold Delhaize countries and all EU local brands. You work cross-country, cross-brand, and cross department. Therefore, being able to focus on several processes and elements, while working within several disciplines and with stakeholders at different levels and with different cultures is key.

The job

In this role you work in the EU NFR Finance team and report to the Manager NFR Finance Europe. The EU NFR Finance team and EU Category Directors are responsible for the EU NFR Sourcing spend. You work closely together with the NFR team which is organized to optimally leverage Ahold Delhaize’s footprint in Europe and drive Ahold Delhaize’s saving programs.  


Key responsibilities:

You are the Financial Business Partner of the EU NFR Category Directors. You help safeguard and implement category strategies.
You are the financial lead in supporting European NFR Sourcing Projects and tenders, which means you develop and analyze, or review business cases based on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
You prepare European workshops to implement projects that will add (financial) value to Ahold Delhaize. You guide financial decisions and develop and approve savings initiatives.
You interact with EU Business Owners and their teams regarding opportunities and estimates connected to Budget, Forecast & Strategic Plan – you advise in relation to improvements in financial and business processes.

As finance business partner for NFR, you assume responsibility for all European countries we operate in (6 countries). The role largely boils down to a mix of supporting and translating different interest into one value adding solution and help guide decision making with the EU NFR category directors. You have to tap into your entire reservoir of skills, because safeguarding the control framework from a finance perspective is just as much in scope as passionately advocating your plans and vision to the NFR team.

The position of the finance business partner is highly impactful because we want to deliver the best sourcing solution, which means the finance business partner needs to have an end to end focus and have a total overview of the financial impact. Continuously improving is often the name of the game because nothing is set in stone, so you have to think strategically and adopt an open mindset. 


How can we create or deliver the best sourcing solution, while safeguarding the financial guidelines or plans? As finance business partner, you will answer these – and many other – questions, working in tandem with the various finance teams across Europe.

We welcome caring colleagues who 

  • Combine a Master degree in Finance & Accounting, Business Administration or Economics with 2-5 years of relevant work experience, e.g., in Finance Consultancy roles, change projects in financial processes, Business Planning & Performance, FP&A, Business Control, M&A or Audit. You bring experience in (finance) process design, process optimalization and change management.
  • Have experience in working in an international environment.
  • Have great communication skills to impact internal and external stakeholders.
  • Bring solid project management qualities to the table – a must because you will work in multifunctional teams. You bring organization sensitivity, humor and confidence.
  • Have strong analytical skills and are able to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Are fluent/native in English, Dutch is considered a big plus.
